Another business comes to aid of the blind society
Bermuda charity.
The Scandinavian Reinsurance Company Ltd is to donate $1,000 to the Bermuda Society for the Blind, it announced yesterday.
Its donation comes in the wake of another $1,000 that was given to the group by Harrington Hundreds supermarket.
Yesterday's donation comes after the Society said its cash was drying up as larger, higher profile, charities were succeeding in raking in the money.
Nigel Stewart, the Society's joint President, said donations and bequests were drying up and the charity was struggling to make ends meet.
Last night he said: "This donation from Scandinavian Re is amazing.'' He also said he had received several calls from people about the charity's financial situation.
The charity is struggling to meet its payroll demands and the medical bills of the 14 blind people it cares for.
It is also unable to afford new materials for basket weaving and has to unpick other baskets to give the blind materials to work with.
