Apology over Bermuda Grace
Bermuda Grace-less.
Mrs. Ann-Mary McGhee was annoyed when VSB's premiere of the TV movie, filmed on the Island in summer, had no closed caption facility for the hearing-impaired.
And to make matters worse a deal between the TV station and Cablevision meant the Bermudian version was repeated on NBC Channel 6 on Friday.
It meant the entire hearing-impaired community were deprived of a film that had the whole Island chattering. VSB programme manager, Mr. Mike Bishop said he intended to apologise personally to Mrs. McGhee.
Mr. Bishop said, despite their coup in getting the film premiered before the rest of the world, the tapes they received were not closed captioned.
He said: "We were sent a special set of tapes made for us, a good few weeks ago. The tapes did not have closed captions for the hearing impaired.'' Then because of the agreement with Cablevision about exclusivity the Bermudian tapes, plus commercials, had to be repeated in place of the NBC version on Friday.
Mr. Bishop said: "We apologise. They are not something we would have left out. The programme was also not in stereo. These are some things we will be taking up with the film company.
"I do sympathise and I am hoping to get another copy with all the accoutrements and show it in summer.'' VSB's decision to show the film paid off as it has proved to be one of the most talked about television shows on the Island for a long time.
