Artists take silent approach to charity auction
Organisers for the first fundraiser for the new Family Resource Network Charitable Trust have decided to take a silent approach to raising cash.
They will host a Cocktail-hors d'oeuvre and Silent Art Auction next Saturday at the Elbow Beach Hotel. And it is hoped that the combination of holding the event on the most romantic weekend of the year plus the chance to purchase spectacular local art will make the evening a huge success.
"We are hoping to make around $40,000,'' revealed organiser Sheelagh Cooper of the Coalition for the Protection of Children. "This is such a major display of generosity by these artists.'' More than 40 top local artists, including Desmond Fountain and Michael Swan, have donated works to be sold at the romantic auction.
Patrons of the event will get a sneak-peak of the stunning artwork that will be up for grabs during a 1 p.m. preview at the hotel.
Proceeds from the event will go to the newly formed Family Resource Network, an alliance of five family service providers in Bermuda. The Network consists of The Physical Resource Centre, The Institute for Child and Family Health, The Coalition for the Protection of Children and PARENTS.
Tickets for the Cocktail-hors d'oeuvre and Silent Art Auction at the Elbow Beach Hotel are $45, available from Cecile's and Louis Vuitton on Front Street, Foreign Cargo on Burnaby Street and the Michael Swan Gallery on Front Street. 295-1150.
