been overwhelmed to receive the photograph and autograph of Britain's Labour Party Leader.

But after waiting weeks for a response to his request for Mr. Tony Blair's autographed photo, Mr. Edmead received a photo that looked as if it came out of the garbage at Windsor Castle after the fire.

"I have most of all the Labour leaders autographed photos,'' Mr. Edmead said, "so I decided to write to Tony Blair who will become the next Prime Minister of Britain.

"When I opened it up, I was very upset,'' he added about the photograph which was sent from the House of Commons.

Mr. Edmead said he planned to write to Mr. Blair again and request another photograph.

However, all was not lost, Mr. Edmead did receive an autographed photo of former US presidential candidate Mr. Ross Perot.

*** Tensions were higher than normal during the recent Independence debate in the House of Assembly. And the nerves showed.

At one point, Acting Speaker Mr. Walter Lister banged his gavel and called out to Sergeant-at-Arms Mr. Michael Fuhrtz, who was striding across the House floor.

Mr. Fuhrtz skidded to a quick halt, thinking he had broken the House rule of walking between the Speaker and an MP who was on his or her feet.

But just as quickly, Mr. Lister realised he had made a mistake. "Sorry, wrong side,'' he told a visibly shaken Mr. Fuhrtz.

More comical was the display of nerves by Government backbencher Mrs. Grace Bell during Friday night's critical voting on the Independence Referendum Act.

With Government expected to squeeze through, provided backbenchers were more supportive than last time, listeners strained to hear as the name of each MP was called.

During voting on a proposed Opposition amendment to the referendum bill, Mrs.

Bell caused an uproar, when she voted "yes''.

"No, I mean no,'' Mrs. Bell shouted, barely audible above the hoots from Progressive Labour Party MPs.

In the end, Mrs. Bell's name was called a second time, and her "no'' was duly recorded.
