Bermuda-themed pub, food planned for airport
A revamped pub with a Bermuda theme and new eating outlets should be in place at the airport by next summer.
Supervisor of Terminals Thomas Dunstan said the current pub, which had been operating on a temporary lease, would be put up again for tender on a 10-year rent for those willing to spruce it up.
Food choice will be increased for those flying out with four cart concessions on offer and to be up and running by May next year while more retail kiosks are also part of the plan.
Mr. Dunstan said: "The cart kiosks will be kept close together because shoppers want to see everything available rather than have it spread around the terminal.'' "It could be coffee, pizza or hot dogs.'' He said those wanting to bid for a spot could attend a meeting before submitting their offer to hear what the airport bosses had in mind as the airport developed.
"We are trying to bring in more a sense of place, bringing in national pride themes into it so it's not just a blah airport but it has some character to it so it makes people feel like they are in Bermuda.'' He said potential bar owners must realise that the decor would have to change.
He said: "It will have Bermudian flavours and colours. They can't just take on what's there and run with that.'' It's thought the new bar will be ready by July.
