Big decisions for Bermuda in Smithsonian culture festival
Organisers of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival were scheduled to decide last weekend which elements of Bermudian life and culture will be re-created for the summer festival.
Set to cost $2.1 million, the complete project will involve a major exhibit staged in both Washington and Bermuda as well as an educational resource kit and a Bermuda folklife archives.
A third of the project's funding will be provided by the Smithsonian with the remaining two thirds split equally between Government and private sponsorship.
At a press conference held last week Minister of Community & Culture, Terry Lister explained that after the decisions made this weekend, there would still be room for additional smaller ideas and stories to be added, "at later stages of the project''.
The Smithsonian Folklife Festival runs annually on the Mall in Washington D.C.
Well over a million visitors attend the event. This year's festival is slated for June 27 to July 8.
