The carnival -- expected to last at least a month -- gets under way today at White Hill Field in Sandys Parish.

Organisers have promised a feast of family entertainment over the coming weeks. Attractions include 15 rides for adults and children, bumper cars, stalls, and games with plenty of prizes at stake.

One of the rides -- the Gravitron -- is built like a giant space-ship. There will also be special evening entertainment, as well as musicians and clowns.

Organiser Mr. Choy Aming said the carnival was being set up by Echo Amusements of Canada.

"We are hiring at least 50 local people for the kitchens, the stalls and to take tickets for the rides,'' he explained.

Mr. Aming said the event should provide fun for all the family.

"It is the biggest carnival they have in Canada, and the biggest that has ever come to Bermuda.

Mr. Aming said there was a $2 entrance fee for adults, $1 for children.

Parking will cost $1.

The carnival will run until midnight. It starts at 5 p.m. weekdays and 3 p.m.

weekends.

"Money will be raised for the mentally handicapped,'' said Mr. Aming.
