Mr. Michael Smith of Smith, Barnard & Diel, lawyer for the Bermuda Broadcasting Co. Ltd., said the broadcaster and World Productions Establshment IMG Overseas Inc. filed the suit for breach of copyright.
World Productions was the producer of the July telecast, he said.
The BBC had the exclusive licence to televise Wimbledon, and "they've got to show their advertisers they're not going to allow that sort of thing to happen'', Mr. Smith said this week.
The writ had been filed in Supreme Court but not yet served on Bermuda Cablevision, he said. He would not state what damages were sought.

STUDENTS FIND CARTRIDGES MIL Find cartridges Police have issued an alert after schoolgirls found spent Regiment ammunition near a Warwick beach.
The girls were running near the Warwick firing ranges used by the Regiment when they found two spent cartridges. They handed them to Police, who took them to Warwick Camp.
Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said the cartridges had escaped the Regiment's usual clean-up process through human error. He asked anyone finding ammunition to hand it to Police or the Regiment immediately.

MAN ACCUSED OF BIKE THEFT CTS Man accused of bike theft A Sandys Parish man was yesterday charged with stealing a $1,200 motorcycle.
Roger Eugene Lightbourne -- a 25-year-old father of two -- was not required to enter a plea when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.
Lightbourne, who was in custody on another matter, was accused of stealing the Yamaha motorcycle from Dennis Maynard between October 27 and 28 last year in Devonshire.
He was also accused of robbing a Southampton couple in October, of cash and property totalling $566, and using personal violence.
He was remanded in custody for a further mention in two weeks.
