Calling all budding media megastars
radio microphone? Or perhaps you know a child who wants to be a talk show host like Oprah Winfrey.
If so, the Electronic Media Development Programme's (EMDP) summer workshops may be what they need to get started.
Gotta Have It Productions, a multimedia agency headed by Gina Paine-Scott, will provide a course of ten workshops twice next month -- from July 3 to 14 and from July 17 to 28 -- at St. Anthony's Church on Middle Road in Warwick.
The workshops are open to children aged eight to 17 with an adult course slated for September. Space for the two sessions is limited.
EMDP was developed by Kae Thompson, a radio and television broadcast journalist, producer and former teacher for the Newark, New Jersey Education Board.
It is designed to use the electronic media as an educational tool to motivate, inspire and excite the participants.
Mrs. Paine-Scott, who also acts as a facilitator in the programme, said EMDP would enable participants to learn exactly how television and radio works.
She said: "With over 500 channels, we now live in a mega channel universe.
"I think the Electronic Media Development Program will benefit Bermuda tremendously. The programme not only introduces people to the many career options available in broadcasting, but it also teaches skills that will enhance and develop the entire professional demeanour of its participants.
"People from any profession can utilise the skills taught here. If this programme were to be adopted by people in the hospitality industry, as well as retail, and anyone who comes in contact with the public -- specifically tourists -- then ultimately tourism would begin to improve.
"The EMDP teaches people how to present themselves, how to chose proper attire, how to speak clearly, professionally and with confidence. The possibilities are limitless.'' Ultimately the young participants will gain hands on learning experience. They will be split into two groups and will be put in charge of a group production.
Registration for the workshops will be held at St. Anthony's Church on June 16 from 4.p.m. till 6 p.m. and on June 17 from noon to 2 p.m.
