Co-presenter Austin Warner said: "What makes this even more satisfying is knowing that the monies raised came from every sector of the community -- from school children who sold lemonade to large corporations that made exceptionally generous donations through matching gift programmes.

"We want each and every one of those people who pledged to know that their donation really counts.'' said Mr. Warner.

The monies raised will go to supporting four substance abuse treatment and prevention agencies: CADA, PRIDE, FOCUS and Fairhavens.

Telethon Chairperson Sheila Nicoll said: "We are simply overwhelmed. The outpouring of support from every sector of the community has just been tremendous.''
