The Duke rides again.

It was a case of double celebration last night for Dandy Town striker Darron (Duke) Simons, who walked away with two awards during the National Football Award Association's gala ceremony at The Princess Hotel.

Simons claimed the top prize as the league's most valuable player and later shared with St. George's marksman Clay Smith the Cedar Boot trophy given to the First Division's top goalscorer.

Both Simons and Smith tallied 11 goals in the selected competitions -- Friendship Trophy, FA Cup and League.

However, the main prize undoubtedly was that of the most valuable player, where Simons beat out the likes of Dwight Warren of division champions Boulevard along with Somerset pair Reggie Tucker and Andre Hendrickson.

In a season where the now former champions struggled to find consistency in their play, Simons was a lone constant.

His speed and opportunism up front placed him as a threat to all he faced and despite close marking and harsh -- often brutal -- tackling he was still able to produce the goods for his club.

Meanwhile, young PHC centre-back Dano Outerbridge was named young player of the year following a season in which he came of age in the absence of Mike Dill for much of the year.

Dill's loss forced a rapid maturation for the youngster who was also a member of the Bermuda Under-23 team that participated at the Pan American Games in Argentina.

In a close ballot, Outerbridge edged Nakia Smith of North Village, with Devonshire Colts' Jahmah Samuels and Lamaul Crofton of Somerset further behind.

The coach of the year category produced a mild surprise, with Gary Darrell capturing the award while operating along the sidelines in the Second Division.

Darrell coached Southampton Rangers to promotion to the First Division as well as the Shield championship in his first full season at the helm.

Darrell's competition had included Vasco's John Rebello, Neil Paynter of St.

George's and Josef Gooden of Somerset.

Other awards went to Somerset Eagles's Terrence Christopher, who led the Second Division with 17 goals and Anne Marie Ivanoff of women's team BAA Telecom, with 12 goals.

DARRON SIMONS -- stole the spotlight last night as most valuable player and joint leading goalscorer in the BFA First Division.
