Scores of people turned out to enjoy the entertainment for the annual event organised by the St. George's Foundatio n.

The afternoon got underway when former Town Crier of the old town, E. Michael Jones ignited the cannon at Gates Fort.

Then followed a number of activities including guided tours, staged sword fights by the Bermuda Fencing Federation and face painting.

For those children up to it, there were also ghost stories being told in the dungeons, as well as knot-tying demonstrations given by the Sea Cadets.

A member of the foundation said yesterday that the day had gone without a hitch.

He said: "It was a great day -- a big success. We thought the rain was going to spoil it just before 5 p.m., but even that managed to stay off.

"A lot of people turned out and a lot of fun was had.''
