Government hasn't made a decision yet about where the fast ferry will stop, but the St. George's Foundation has been shown plans to use the new visitor site at the former Queen's warehouse as the terminal.

The current terminal for the ferry, which runs to and from Dockyard, is further along the waterfront near the town hall.

The St. George's Foundation supports the new terminal being at the centre because it wants to channel all visitors through the site so they can be immersed in the history of the Old Town.

Foundation chairman David Rowntree told The Royal Gazette : "It is imperative that it be located there because we want to funnel everyone who comes through St. George's through the visitor centre.

The World Heritage centre, which could cost up to $10 million, is not likely to open for another two to three years, said Mr. Rowntree, but it would be perfectly acceptable as a terminal for the new fast ferries.

St. George's is hoping in the future the ferry service can be expanded so the Old Town can offer a Hamilton service.
