BAMZ public relations officer Christine Greenspan said the flamingo babies are born white and will slowly gain their adult pink plumage over the next three to four years.

The Caribbean flamingo flock at the Island zoo has one of the most successful long-term captive breeding programmes in the world.

A threatened species, the birds have successfully bred in Bermuda since 1967 and helped to offset losses in the wild.

BAMZ zoo keeper Robin Marirea noted: "We are very excited about this year's breeding season. If all the eggs hatch, this will be the most successful breeding season in the last seven years.''
