WATERMELON COOLER 1 Watermelon (about 4 pounds) 1 cup sugar 1 fresh lemon squeezed 1 quart citrus flavoured soda Lime sherbert or lemon sorbet Garnish of mint leaves, maraschino cherries and whipped cream REMOVE the rind and seeds from the watermelon and then puree the flesh in a blender. Stir in the lemon juice and sugar. Put the mixture into a sealed container and chill. Pour about 1 cup of the mixture into a tall glass and add the soda.
Top each glass with a scoop of lime or lemon sherbert. Decorate with cream, mint leaves and cherries. Serve with a long spoon.
JAMAICAN GINGER BEER 2 oz Jamaican green ginger 2 oz cream of tartar 1 gallon boiling water 1 cake yeast The juice and rind of 3 small limes 1 1 pounds sugar WASH and pound the ginger. Add the boiling water and the juice and rinds of the limes. Mix in the cream of tartar. Cover but stir frequently. When the mixture is lukewarm, dissolve the yeast in a small amount of warm water and add to the brew. Stir well.
Let stand for 6 hours. Sweeten and bottle. Keep at least 3 to 4 days. Add a small quantity of rum to preserve the drink.
FOURWAYS STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI 6 Fresh strawberries 1 measure of Fraise Liqueur A dash of Lemon Juice A splash of Grenadine A taste of sugar BLEND all the above ingredients with crushed ice. Serve in a frosted tulip glass and decorate with two halves of a large strawberry.
LOUIS STEEDE'S PLANTER'S PUNCH 1 part pineapple juice 1 part lemon juice 1 part Grenadine 1 part Black Seal rum 1 part Barbados rum 1 dash bitters 1 dash brandy 1 dash sweet vermouth Some cherry juice to colour and sweeten LOIS MORGAN'S COCONUT PUNCH 40 oz Black Seal Rum 40 oz Barbados Rum 2 oz Coconut Rum 8 oz Brandy 6 oz Grenadine Shot glass of Angostura Bitters 1 oz Falernum 1 large can of pineapple juice 1 small can of orange juice Juice of 6 Bermuda Lemons Mix together and chill well. Add ginger ale if too strong.
PASSION FRUIT COCKTAIL 2/5 parts Passion fruit liqueur 1/5 part Orange juice 1/5 part lemon juice 1/5 part Scotch whisky MIX in a shaker and serve in a highball glass. Top up with lemonade. Decorate with a sprig of mint, an orange slice and a cherry.
More cool Bermuda drinks BERMUDA BANANA BLEND 2 eggs 2 Bermuda bananas 1 oz Bermuda honey Milk Nutmeg Put the eggs, peeled and roughly chopped bananas, and honey into a blender.
Fill to the 20 oz mark with milk and add nutmeg to taste. Blend until smooth.
