Internationally acclaimed motivational speaker Kevin Useldinger spoke to Hamilton Rotarians and urged them to take responsibility for their own health and happiness.

Mr. Useldinger is honeymooning on the Island with his new wife Teresa, and comes from Watsonville, California.

He explained the keys to health were rest, fuel, and activity, and said that it often takes a crisis before people get serious about their health.

After speaking about his grandfather's recovery from a heart attack, and his own crisis with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, his message was that it is never too late to get started.

Mr. Useldinger explained many of the health problems plaguing America such as obesity and type II diabetes, and explained the benefits of eating properly and exercise.

He also explained the difference between men and women, and what happens as the body starts to age and sag.

In a lively talk, Mr. Useldinger utilised one of his tools of the trade and used a fat gun to measure Rotarian Toppy Cowen's percentage of fat.

Mr. Cowen had 17 percent on top and ten percent on the bottom, and when averaged, this put him in the optimal weight category, which elicited a triumphant cheer from Mr. Cowen.

Mr. Useldinger said this was good, but Mr. Cowen was still about three pounds overweight.

Mr. Useldinger also spoke about the dangers of diets and said there was nothing better for the body than pure water.

Exercise was also a key to health and happiness and Mr. Useldinger's key recommendation was to keep the time short and exercise effectively, by strength training, stretching and the cardiovascular work.
