Love in the spotlight
local artist.
The performance, entitled "Soul Deep: A Funked-Up Love Vibe'', will be playing at City Hall on July 10 and 11.
And according to playwright Alan Smith, the play touches on "the whole continuum'' of love relationships.
The scenes focus on everything from the bliss of infatuation to the darker side of "love gone wrong''.
The project is the third in a trilogy written by Mr. Smith. The previous play entitled "Waves'' premiered about two years ago and focused on the troubling subjects of molestation and incest.
Mr. Smith said music played an important part in "Soul Deep'' and described Wendell Simmons' musical input as "unconventional and eclectic''.
Mr. Simmons will be mixing diverse combinations of trip-hop, reggae and rock.
And the show is expected to appeal to a broad audience who can appreciate artistic innovation. "What we're trying to do is demonstrate the entertainment potential of poetry and words in a way that can appeal to more people than those interested in poetry,'' he said.
Tickets for "Soul Deep'' are $25 for the general public and $40 for patrons.
Tickets can be purchased from the City Hall Box Office or Gear Box on the corner of Court and Church Street.
