planned for Washington.

The news was revealed this week by Mr. Rolfe Commissiong, one of the organisers of the recent Million Man March in Bermuda.

"We will definitely organise one here as well. It is part of the next development of the whole movement, God willing,'' he said.

He added an event for families was a "logical'' follow-up to October's Million Man March, which attracted hundreds of people.

To a drumbeat, marchers went from Dundonald Street to Court Street, and into St. Paul Centennial Hall, where they heard speeches and vowed to work towards solving problems of violence and drugs.

The event was a much smaller version of the Million Man March in Washington called by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Organisers claimed as many as 1.5 million people took part -- although the Police estimate was much lower.

"The Million Man March brought out a spirit of unity in the black community that was unequalled,'' said Rev. Benjamin Chavis, one organiser.

"It was natural that we try to build on that success.'' He said plans were for black families around the world to take part through simultaneous marches and satellite hookups on October 16, 1996.

Chavis has said before that the anniversary of the Million Man March would be observed as an international event.
