Men make the scene in cool colours and traditional grey
Plenty of grey days are ahead for men as fashion's classic neutral invades closets around the world.
The `must-have' colour is the easiest way men can update their look for autumn `98.
An added bonus is grey can effortlessly be fitted into the most conservative of closets -- without ruffling any feathers.
Ronnie Baksh, part owner of The Edge in Washington Mall, said men's fashion in Bermuda had not changed much since last year.
But that does not mean that the local men's fashion scene has not evolved -- its just that Bermudians need to catch up with their counterparts in Europe and the US.
"Abroad, the look is very fitted, peg-leg pants,'' he explained. "But at home baggy pants are still popular.'' LaVerne Zuill, of 27th Century Boutique on Burnaby Street, agreed that straight-leg pants were hot for autumn `98.
"Straight-leg pants are very strong for men,'' she said. "And no bright colours -- just natural ones.'' As with women's wear, all shades of the colour grey is making news for autumn '98.
Mr. Baksh also said chocolate brown, black and navy were also popular colours for winter menswear.
Those who wish to push the envelope a little further may want to pick up a pair of flat-front pants.
"Flat-front pants with either wide or narrow legs are in,'' he explained.
"Turtle necks and longer jackets are also in.
"Very tapered dress shirts, or dart shirts, and basic crew necks are in as well this fall.'' And Mr. Baksh said that heavy wools and corduroy fabrics were still strong this season.
But over at 27th Century's, Ms Zuill said she was also carrying linens for fall since Bermuda did not get that cold in the winter.
