More help for Bosnia
container will arrive in Bermuda soon to take vital supplies to former Yugoslavia.
"We are asking the public to bring warm clothing and food,'' said Mrs. Lucy Willitts, who is organising the collection.
The container will be at Lindo's Market, Devonshire, from noon today.
Mrs. Willitts, a veteran at shipping supplies to war-torn Bosnia and Croatia, said donations should be boxed and well marked.
They would be received until 6 p.m. today, and tomorrow from 9 a.m. -- until the container was full.
"We ask anyone who would like to contribute to please come early because last time people were so generous we were unable to accept items that came in late.'' Mrs. Willitts added: "There will also be a drop-box inside Lindo's for people who would like to donate single items.'' The container would be put on the Bermuda Container Line vessel Oleander before being shipped to New York, said Mrs. Willitts.
"From there it will be carried on the Croatian Line to the port of Rijeka, and then taken overland to the town of Split for distribution.'' Mrs. Willitts, of Pembroke, who has made several visits to Bosnia, was awarded the Queen's Certificate and Badge of Honour in the New Year.
Last year she organised for two containers to be shipped from Bermuda to the strife-torn region.
"We are hoping to do as well as last time,'' she said.
