Quilters help find a cure
breast cancer awareness this week.
The show which ends tomorrow at Cathedral Hall, is run in conjunction with Bermuda's TB Cancer and Health Association.
All participants were to use special designs such as Plantation, Colours in texture and To Have and to Hold created by Bonnie Benn Stratton. They are transferred to fabric with the help of Northcott Silks Inc. and a portion of the profits from each yard sold goes to Breast Cancer Research in the US.
Quilts in the show had to contain at least three of the preceding fabric designs, and they had to be 40 inches by 40 inches.
All entrants received a ten percent discount off any purchase of the designs and TB Cancer and Health received a donation of ten percent of the value of the fabrics sold.
Gibbons Company advertising manager Carol Gutteridge said 15 entries were received but only eight were finished.
"We had a product that was helping breast cancer research in the US and we thought that since the company tag line is `for the way Bermuda lives' we thought it would be great to show our support during the month of October (breast cancer awareness month) and help raise the awareness of breast cancer in Bermuda in correlation with the TB Cancer and Health,'' Ms Gutteridge said.
She added: "It has been pretty successful and there has been a great turnout at the Cathedral hall. It is the first annual event and we are pleased with the amount of quilts we received. We hope next year it can be a bigger and better event.''
