Single parents group re-starts
people in the community come together and improve their lives.
New life has been breathed into Single Parents in Action (SPA) which has lain dormant for some four years and its steering committee are actively seeking members and funding.
Recruiting officer Althea Iris, a former member of the group, said she had persuaded the past president of SPA, George Scott, to come on board and join her and Marsha Woolridge in resurrecting the group.
"We need to have it back up and running because of the issues and other concerns which have been raised,'' said Ms Iris. "We feel it is the right time to start.
"I don't think you can have enough community support. There's a tremendous amount of lack on the Island which people often don't see because of the tremendous amount of prosperity.'' The group hit a membership total of about 200 before it began to dissolve about four years ago. It was meeting once a week at its peak and organised a number of successful programmes including clothing drives.
It will seek to pick up where it left off by generally offering support to single parents and taking some specific courses of action.
People interested in becoming members of the group or helping it with funding or sponsorship can contact Ms Iris at 292-3150.
