Some mint plant descriptions at a glance

Applemint Mint -- Slightly hairy, grey-green, apple scented leaves are the trademarks of Apple mint. It makes an excellent addition to fruit salads or beverages. Plant it in a sunny spot with rich, well drained soil.

Austrian Mint -- Richly fragrant leaves are the trademark of Austrian mint.

Like other mints, Austrian mint will grow in either full sun or partial shade.

They're vigorous plants that can quickly take over an area unless you grow them in posts or contain them with bricks or stone. Use Austrian mint as a garnish for drinks or salads.

Blackstem Peppermint Mint -- True to its name, Blackstem peppermint has black stems that bear quantities of green, fragrant leaves. It's a rampant grower that can reach two feet tall. Use the leaves in salads, beverages or desserts.

Candymint Mint -- These extraordinary plants have a wonderful fragrance that smells like peppermint candy. In the spring and fall, the stems are a lovely shade of red.

Ginger Mint -- Highly ornamental, ginger mint has bright green leaves streaked with splotches of yellow. The leaves have a fresh, fruity fragrance that make a welcome addition to fruit salads and beverages.

Grapefruit Mint -- This citrus-scented mint has a refreshing fragrance that's wonderful as a garnish on ice tea or sparkling water.

Lemon Mint -- The rich lemon flavoured leaves of lemon mint can be used to flavour drinks, salads, fish ad chicken. Like other mints, lemon mint is a vigorous plant that spreads quickly.
