State of the Arts: Breaking new ground
Caroline Troncossi, right, about the new generation of artists working in Bermuda today.
In the past ten years, art has flourished on the Island, with a greater number of artists exploring a diversity of styles and media, and an ever-broadening audience turning out to see their work.
Most of the new generation of artists pumping fresh blood into Bermuda's traditionally conservative art scene come from a generation of people who, collectively, have had opportunities that are unprecedented in Bermuda. More people than ever before are travelling abroad for higher education. Many young Bermudian artists have studied at international art institutions and have visited foreign art galleries.
In the second part of a five-part series exploring the growth of art in Bermuda, The Royal Gazette talks to mother and daughter Carole Holding and Caroline Troncossi about the influence of international exposure on young artists and the continuing resilience of the pink cottage.
Next week, Kendra Ezekiel and Daniel DeSilva talk candidly about striking a balance between artistic growth and paying the bills.
