down to the music store with your pennies and get yourself one of the season's new releases. Once again modern artists are releasing albums containing traditional favourites and personal recordings they hope will earn a place in the heart of the holiday music listener. What promises to be the largest seller this year is soulful crooner Luther Vandross' first Christmas album "This is Christmas''. The album features stalwart Christmas songs such as Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and O Come all Ye Faithful as well as what the album cover calls "future holiday classics''. These include Every Year, Every Christmas and the title track This Is Christmas. Michael DeMello at Music World in the Bermudiana Arcade said he feels this will be the top seller this year. Already on shelves throughout Island music stores is an offering from Jamie Jones, Tony Borowiak, Delious and Alfred Nevarez, collectively known as the pop group All-4-One. The album entitled An All-4-One Christmas blends holiday classics such as Silent Night, Frosty The Snowman and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer with the new Christmas With My Baby. For instrumental lovers and easy listeners comes Christmas In The Aire by Mannheim Steamroller. Mr. DeMello said that this group's albums "normally go pretty well''. And for Gospel fans there is a release due from Kirk Franklin And The Family whose title Mr. DeMello said he did not know yet but would be announced soon. Although the singer produced the number one Gospel album entitled Kirk Franklin And The Family, his concert which was planned for August 1 in Bermuda was postponed after lack of public response. Only some 100 tickets were sold out of the 2,000 which were available. However, Mr. DeMello said he expected the Christmas album from the artist -- who cites Elton John as one of his influences -- to be a big seller. Returning to the shelves this holiday season will be previous Christmas albums from artists Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men and Kenny G -- last year's top sellers -- as well as Salsoul Orchestra and Tony Bennett. A Very Special Christmas Volumes I and II will also be available as will other various artist compilations. The Very Special Christmas collection contains music ranging from The Pointer Sisters' Santa Claus Is Coming To Town to Bon Jovi's Back Door Santa. So grab yourself a little egg nog, turn on the stereo and get ready to get in the spirit this holiday season. Who knows? Luther Vandross' version of My Favourite Things may be just what you are looking for. PHOTO OFFERINGS - The top listening choices for Christmas include this year's new releases from All-4-One, Luther Vandross and Kirk Franklin and the Family as well as last year's hits from Kenny G, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.
