Take the family to see time tunnel
`Time Tunnel', a 1950s and 60s Rock 'N' Roll revue show this Sunday.
Sporting a cast of 13 singers and musicians, `Time Tunnel' will take you back in time to the era of hula hoops and sock hops, when Elvis wasn't synonymous with supermarket tabloids, when people could lie `Under The Boardwalk,' ponder life with questions such as `Why Do Fools Fall In Love?' or just simply `Rock Around The Clock.' As the brainchild of co-producers Deletta Gillespie and Kevin Mayberry (of Jazzology fame), `Time Tunnel' is designed as a family show aimed primarily at the baby boomer generation.
Miss Gillespie attributes the idea behind the show to Mr. Mayberry, who will also be the drummer in the show, and says the intent is to fill an entertainment void that currently exists in Bermuda for more mature audiences.
"The really is no other outlet for mature audiences other than ballroom dancing at the Hamilton Princess,'' Miss Gillespie says. "We've tried to present this as an alternative.'' Aside from performing a wide selection of ageless classics from artists ranging from Bill Hailey and the Comets to start off the show through Aretha Franklin as the show progresses chronologically through the years, `Time Tunnel' also includes the audience in segments such as `Name That Theme', where contestants on a mock television show will be asked to name their favourite show tunes.
"We've got the podiums and the applause meter and the whole nine yards,'' says Miss Gillespie.
`Time Tunnel' will run two shows every Sunday in Sonesta Beach Hotel's Palm Court Club at 8.30 and 10.30 p.m. through November 17. Tickets are $25 per person, with children half price.
