US lawyers to hold tort conference in Bermuda
discuss the opportunities and risks relating to tort and insurance issues arising from globalisation.
The American Bar Association is staging a three-day programme from April 29-May 1 at Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort.
The ABA is also hoping to get a top official from the Clinton administration to deliver the keynote address.
Entitled `Tort and Insurance Practice Issues in an Increasingly Interdependent World', the seminar will look at the future by addressing crucial topics of interest to all segments of tort and insurance constituencies.
A spokesman for the ABA said: "Bermuda is a fitting location for this programme. A centre for international insurance activity, it now rivals such traditional insurance centres as London and New York.
"Faculty will include distinguished lawyers and officials from Bermuda, England, Belgium and the United States.
"An impressive group of experts from the US and abroad will provide guidance to plaintiff's lawyers, defence lawyers, insurance company counsel, and others concerned with the future of the insurance industry and the civil justice system, on the most pressing legal issues of the day.'' The seminar will concentrate on three different themes: Day One -- Representing the Multi-National Enterprises; Day Two -- Current Litigation Issues in the International Arena; and Day Three -- The US Insurer in the World Community.
The Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the ABA has more than 35,000 members and 37 committees, representing all aspects of domestic and international tort and insurance law issues.
