Where to go for the party of the century

and Friends featuring 15-year-old Paul Lennox on drums while Rayneka Brangman and the Bermuda National Youth Jazz Ensemble will impress all with their rendition of the popular dance-hit Mambo Number 5.

The event will also feature Dawn the Bermuda Queen of Limbo, the Bermuda African Dancers and the young Bermudian band, Mahogany, who will play a selection of the latest tunes.

The legendary Pinky Steede will take all for a stroll down memory lane, and of course, no New Year's Eve celebration would be complete without the Gombeys and a massive fireworks display (rumoured to be three-times the size of the normal New Year's Eve displays).

The hosts for the festivities, which get underway at 6.30 p.m. in King's Square, will be the Captain from Power 95 and Nadanja Hayward, the talented Bermudian comic.

The Premier, Jennifer Smith, will address the world, since Bermuda is one of the 24 time zones to be broadcast live. The Island will appear right after Brazil, and just before New York City.

It's time to party Food and champagne will be available at the East End family affair as well as face painting for the littlest party-goers.

Extra buses will be running throughout the evening and there will be a special section for taxis as well as mini buses which take revellers to and from their parked cars.

* The New Year's Eve Bash at the Royal Naval Dockyard will feature a one-and-a-half hour performance by Bermuda's very own international pop sensation Heather Nova, who will also be counting down to the dawn of a new Millennium.

The Time Warp 2000 Show Band, specially formed for the occasion, will also perform along with Piece of the Rock and the dancers from the In Motion School of Dance.

As the 20th century comes to a close, the skies will come alive with a fantastic fireworks display followed by an `inter-galactic parade' by Carnival Crew.

And revellers will be able to kick-up their heels and dance until 3 a.m. to tunes from DJ Thomas.

The free event, which kicks off at 8 p.m., will also feature a Millennium Food Court.

Plenty of extra ferries and buses will also be on hand to transport merry-makers to and from Dockyard. For more information 234-1709.
