Art camp is underway
summer holiday appreciating Bermuda's living art.
Tripp West, coordinator for the programme, has been teaching children in art-related programmes for the past four summers. This is the first time that Masterworks has hosted a six-week summer camp dedicated to teaching youngsters art techniques.
The camp, which is open to seven- to 13-year old students, meets at Masterworks every morning before going on scheduled outings. The programme visits different parts of Bermuda such as Dockyard and the Aquarium to find objects to sketch and paint.
"The students are learning different techniques, like how to paint, draw, and sculpt,'' said Mr. West. "We'll be collecting stuff at the beach to make sculptures, and we're going to the Aquarium to paint some of the animals. The students will be looking to the environment for artistic inspiration,'' he added.
Mr. West noted that students from all over the Island get the chance to meet each other, with "art as the common interest''.
The camp will be operating on a rotating basis, and Mr. West encouraged parents who want to get their children involved to call Masterworks at 295-5580.
