transport has been captured in a new book by local author Mr. David F. Raine.

"Rattle and Shake - The Story of the Bermuda Railway'', published by Pompano Publications in St. George's, is the first book of its kind to deal with the fascinating but short life of the Island's train service.

Coming almost 45 years after the tracks were dismantled, "Rattle and Shake'' describes the circumstances which led to the railway's introduction and chronicles the events which caused its demise.

The book contains an informative and carefully researched text and an extensive selection of black and white photographs. Some of the pictures were selected from Government Archive collections and were taken by visitors and residents during the 1930s and '40s. Recent photographs taken by the author are used to show what remains of the railway trail today.

"Rattle and Shake'' comes in the same size and format as two of Mr. Raine's previous best-sellers, "Architecture Bermuda Style'' and "Bermuda as It Used To Be''.

Mr. Raine's work has been published by some of the most prominent publishing houses in Britain, Canada, Singapore and Bermuda, and can be found in leading bookstores throughout the world.

He has appeared on a variety of interview and talk shows locally and overseas, and his previous writings have received rave reviews from critics in Bermuda, North America and the UK.

"Rattle and Shake'' will initially be available in hardback at selected principal outlets for $25.

A paperback version will be released in late March in time for the 1993 tourist season.
