Bar receives hoax bomb call -- Drinkers forced to evacuate following Police tip-off
A pub had to be evacuated during the early hours of Saturday morning after Police received an anonymous bomb threat.
Somerset Police station received a call just after 2 a.m. and was told that a bomb would go off at The Loyalty Inn, Sandys, within 15 minutes.
Police went to the bar to warn management, who in turn decided to err on the side of caution and evacuate the premises.
About 35 drinkers were asked to leave the bar within the 15-minute warning.
A Police spokeswoman said: "A quiet and orderly evacuation was carried out without incident and the bar was reopened around 2.35 a.m.
"An offer to have the Police explosive ordnance device team conduct a search of the premises was declined, and no further Police action at the premises was required.'' Owner of The Loyalty Inn -- which only opened a few months ago -- Dennis Vickers last night said he had been "somewhat surprised'' by the threatening call.
But he said he believed the call had been directed at him personally, although he said he did not wish to go into detail.
He said: "I think the call has been traced back to a telephone booth and the caller was a female. I believe the Police are looking into it.
"I think the call was personal to me.. I don't think anybody is in danger''.
Police enquiries are underway and anyone with information should call officers on 295-0011.
