Bermuda readers can have their say
Royal Gazette following Charles Schulz's retirement.
"I am sure that all of our readers felt a pang following the news that Charles M. Schulz is retiring and that `Peanuts', which is arguably the most popular newspaper comic strip of the last 50 years, will be no more,'' Editor Bill Zuill said.
"I am not sure that any strip will replace the quirky and insightful humour that `Peanuts' embodied,'' he added.
The newspaper is awaiting word from "Peanuts' '' syndicate, United Feature Service, on whether re-runs of the comic will be made available.
"We will then decide whether we wish to continue to publish older `Peanuts' or if we will bring in a new strip,'' Mr. Zuill said.
"In the meantime, Royal Gazette readers will be able to read new comics for a little longer than American newspaper readers, who will see the cartoon for the last time on January 4.
"Because the cartoon is mailed to us, we run about a month behind North American newspapers and readers will probably see Charles Schulz' farewell cartoon just before the end of January.'' * ** How do you feel about the retirement of Charles Schulz and do you think The Royal Gazette should continue with re-runs of "Peanuts'' or find a replacement?
