Millions of puffers will be joining in the annual ambitious worldwide effort.

This year's theme is "Health Services -- Our Window to a Tobacco-Free World''.

Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness will mount Bermuda's effort at St.

Brendan's Hospital and King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The role of health workers and health services will be showcased.

And their responsibilities towards smokers and non-smokers, and their bid to create a smoke-free environment will be highlighted.

Government's Health Promotions Officer Mrs. Ivena Laurenceo will provide information to help doctors and health workers wean smokers away from their habit.

She said it was crucial for doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and others to recognise their efforts can make a big difference.

Anti-smoking bookmarks and balloons will be handed out by hospital staff, and a video on quitting the habit will be shown.

In addition, information booths on World No-Tobacco Day will be set up in Hamilton, outside the Queen Street library and Court Street's Washington Mall.

A Government spokesman said it was hoped smokers would kick their habit for at least 24 hours.

"Persons are encouraged to stretch that time to two days or even forever.'' Information on Smoking Cessation courses is available by ringing 236-0224 ext.
