Bermuda's women to be focus of Black Box's African Ball

"And...what about change,'' the ball's theme, will focus on Bermuda's women.

Theatre director Ms Patricia Pogson, of Black Box Productions, said Bermuda Public Services Association's first female president-elect, Mrs. Leleath Bailey was chosen as the guest speaker.

"She is a spearheader,'' Ms Pogson said, adding organisers will also pay homage to the Physical Abuse Centre.

Ms Pogson said the ball will also incorporate the principles of Kwanzaa with the lighting of candles, sharing of food and fellowship.

Storytelling by Ms Shernette Peniston, a slide presentation by Mr. and Mrs.

Cyril Packwood, and "first-class'' entertainment by the group, Bermuda's Finest Dancers, the DCL Unity Choir, and sisters Shayla and Shardae Whitter will top off the evening.

An in-house raffle will raise funds for Black Box Productions' scholarship fund.

Those planning to attend the ball, on February 4 at the Pembroke Community Centre, are urged to wear ethnic clothing.

Spanish Town will provide the music while Mr. Ras Mikal will be the emcee. The ball which begins 8 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m.

Some 200 tickets, priced at $35 per person or $30 if purchased by a group of ten or more people, are available at True Reflections on Court Street.

Black Box Productions membership applications will also be available at the ball.
