BERMUDIAN ABROAD -- Bermudian Mr. Louis Pantry, who had a long, distinguished career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, shared some of his fascinating experiences with Hamilton Rotarians this week.
Mr. Pantry, who joined the Mounties in 1947, held posts across Canada including New Brunswick, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the icy Yukon Territory, where winter temperatures sometimes dipped to minus 52 degrees.
He said he turned down the post of Bermuda's Commissioner of Police when it was offered to him, because his "devotion, loyalty and allegiance'' to the Mounted Police was too strong. Mr. Pantry now works as a consultant for Emergency Planning Canada, "preparing for things we hope will never happen''.
