Bermudians take in African adventure

A number of Bermudians joined a group of Canadians and Americans this July for the `Two Faces of Africa Adventure Tour'.

The group's 17-day `out of Africa' adventure took them to a variety of exotic destinations like Ghana, South Africa and Benin.

Each member of the group took a care-package consisting of school items like pens, pencils and exercise books to dispense to school children in Ghana. They also presented care-packages consisting of warm clothes to people in South Africa.

Tour organiser, Sandra Jennings Hutchful said that although many Africans did not know of Bermuda as a country, they had heard of it in the context of the Bermuda Triangle! *** The International Association of Administrative Professionals will host an Anniversary Barbecue this weekend.

The IAAP event will take place at the Bermuda Public Service Association on Angle Street in Hamilton.

Saturday's barbecue will kick off at 7.30 p.m. and will feature a raffle.

Tickets for the barbecue are $10, while raffle tickets are $5. Both are available from any IAAP member.

*** The Bermuda Arts Centre in Dockyard will hold a special lace making course with visiting UK lecturer Diana Stanton.

`Bobbin Lace making for Beginners' will be held at the Arts Centre's Gallery II on October 1, 2, 3, 16 and 17.

The local workshop, which will run over two weekends, will introduce students to the delights of making bobbin lace.

The fee for the five-day course is $200 for members of the Arts Centre and $225 for non-members. There will also be a $75 equipment fee in addition to the course fee.

Ms Stanton, who has over 20 years lace making experience, has been teaching and demonstrating her craft for 14 years to students in Buckinghamshire, England.

For more information on the course contact Lilla Zuill at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard at 234-2809, 234-3333 or fax at 234-0540.
