Engineers opened one lane yesterday and were expected to have a full flow of traffic today.

Asphalt was laid on the historic drawbridge on Monday and yesterday engineers allowed a single lane to open. The official opening of the bridge is scheduled for tomorrow.

Once traffic is flowing over the bridge, workmen will start to take up the temporary causeway that has been in place since repairs started in April.

The re-opening was due to take place in mid-July but was delayed as the $600,000 renovation project took longer than expected.

Works and Engineering Minister C.V. (Jim) Woolridge said many of the huge boulders used for the causeway would be used as shore protection in the area.
