BSA summer show on view

The show will be judged by American artist Terry Elkins from Eastern Long Island, New York, who held a feedback session with the artists prior to Friday's opening.

During his visit to Bermuda, Mr. Elkins' artwork will be on display at the Burnaby Gallery.

*** The Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) presents a public lecture entitled "Bring Back Bermuda's Scallops'' next Wednesday.

BBSR scientist Dr. Samia Sarkis will outline how the BBSR is working to bring Bermuda scallops back to our inshore waters and restaurant tables.

The 6.30 p.m. lecture will take place at the BBSR. A reception will follow the lecture. Tickets for non-donors are $10, donors are free. 297-1880 ext. 206.

*** Women searching for answers to relationship questions will not want to miss the a workshop entitled, "What You Want to Know About Having Loving Relationships '' .

Clinical psychologist Dee Martin , host of ZBM Radio's "Heart to Heart'', will lead a follow-up workshop which will provide hands-on tools to help individuals get the kind of relationship they want with their mate, family or co-workers.

The 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. workshop will take place on Friday, June 9 at the Old Woodlands School Building on Mount Hill Road, Pembroke. The $40 fee includes lunch. 292-4366.

*** The Bermuda Business & Professional Women's Club will honour local musicians and entertainers with "Celebrating Our Musical Heritage''.

The $30 buffet dinner will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ocean View Golf Club.

Musicians Charles Bascome, George Smith, Dan Rawlins, Charles (Jiggs) Douglas, Alphaeus (Arti) Black, Ray and Vince Ratteray, Gene Steede, Cromwell Miles Manders and Ron Lightbourne will be honoured.

*** Alliance Francaise presents a French film evening next week.

The 1967 film, Belle de Jour , staring Catherine Deneuve and Michel Piccoli will be shown at 8 p.m. at the BMDS Daylesford Theatre on June 14.

The film, with English subtitles, is a tale of deceit and desire in which Deneuve stars as Severine, a perfect housewife who leads a shocking double life.

Tickets are $3 for members and $5 for non-member.

*** Under the distinguished patronage of Pastor and Mrs. Terrence Stovell , the West End Athletic Club will present a gospel concert entitled `Jesus: Don't leave Earth without Him' .

The June 17 concert, hosted by the local charity, will feature Aaron Daniels, Jonae Smith, Sharon Santucci, Danny Hill, Toni M. Robinson, Antonia Simons and Darlene Symonds .

The performers will take the stage in St. John's Pembroke Church Hall at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for patrons, $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Proceeds in aid of the Club's travel and equipment fund.
