It has issued an open invitation to all songwriter/performers to participate in the "Originals Showcase'' at the Old Colony Club.

A spokesman said: "The event is meant to provide a forum for the Island's writers and musicians to perform their original works in an informal setting.

"The Club is looking for an enthusiastic audience to come out for a wholesome helping of Bermuda talent.'' Originals Showcase is designed to be as open and relaxation to encourage both amateurs and professionals.

The spokesman said: "Any type of music is welcome as long as it is original work. The Folk Club wants to host a varied and entertaining affair that will be thoroughly enjoyed by both performers and audience.

"Popular jam nights in bars and clubs have proved that there are many talented amateur and semi-professional songwriters and musicians on the Island.

"The Folk club hopes that they, along with the professionals who do not always get the chance to perform their original work, will sign up as part of the Originals Showcase.

"Through events like this the club hopes to provide an opportunity for local musicians to get on stage, to meet other musicians and to take advantage of the exposure that the Folk club can offer.

"It will be something new in entertainment with a distinct local flavour.'' Interested participants can telephone Paul or Jaqui Gibbons on 295-9958 or Owen Burgess at 238 2831.

The event is scheduled for 8 p.m. General admission is $5 with folk club members $3.
