And yesterday Mrs. Kennard, of Coral Bluffs, Warwick, celebrated her birthday with members of her family from the United States.

She is pictured with her son Mr. Harold Kennard, of Napa, California, and her daughter Mrs. Jeanne Laing, of Naples, Florida. Mrs. Kennard has nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Her husband Harold died in 1984 at the age of 93. They had lived on the Island since 1982.

Born in 1892, Mrs. Kennard was raised in West Virginia before moving with her family to Augusta and then New York. She met Mr. Kennard, who was from Brooklyn, and they were married in 1916.

They spent their honeymoon at the Princess Hotel in that year and there began a love affair with the Island.

Mr. Kennard made his money in the silk trade and then synthetics and the couple were able to buy a vacation home in Bermuda in 1959.

Their son said: "As they got older and had more and more vacation time they spent more time in Bermuda before finally moving over here.

"They were both very active. My father played tennis at Coral Beach Tennis Club into his mid-80s. They have a lot of friends over here.'' CENTURY MAKER -- Mrs. Frances Jackson Kennard, who celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday, with son Mr. Harold Kennard and daughter Mrs. Jeanne Laing.
