CME launches
Slovakia's first private television station, TV Markiza, amid increasing concern about government interference and control over the nation's media.
CME, a venture started by Estee Lauder heir Ronald Lauder and former US ambassador to Hungary Mark Palmer to invest in TV stations across the former East bloc, declined to say how much it will invest.
The station is expected to cover 60 percent of Slovakia, where most of the population of 5.5 million currently is limited to watching only two state-owned TV stations.
TV Markiza is run by Slovak Television Company, which is owned 49 percent by CME and 51 percent by its Slovak partner, Markiza-Slovakia.
