Eugene Vickers of the Bermuda Community Education and Development Programme said representatives from throughout the Caribbean and the US will participate in the Caribbean/Bermuda Region Conference Workshops on July 25.

Secrets for coping with change, clues for community survival, and a presentation to introduce art to the handicapped are some of the activities planned for the one-day event at the Bermuda College campus.

And Lowdru Robinson, director of opportunity and development and a former vice president of the International Community Education Association's (ICEA) World body, will be the keynote speaker.

The local education organisation became a member of the ICEA 17 years ago, but this is the first time a conference has been held in Bermuda.

Mr. Vickers explained that with some 30 countries represented, Bermuda and the Caribbean islands formed one of six global regions.

And he said the regional conferences were usually held in one of the Caribbean islands to help promote local economies.

However, Mr. Vickers said he believed Bermuda especially needed the conference this year.

"The plan is to teach young people to bring focus into their life and to give direction to families,'' he said.
