It is a daunting task to compete against the US in anything motorised, but two Bermudian entrepreneurs have come together to beat them at their own game -- in their own backyard.

Contractor Travers Clarke and co-pilot Elton Robinson returned from the US this week after winning several prestigious prizes at one of the largest custom motor shows in the world.

The two took Mr. Travers' truck, "It's Over'' to the NOPI Nationals Motor Sports Supershow, the largest auto show on the East Coast, held at Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 16 and 17.

Mr. Clarke, who is managing director of Unique Builders, won best overall in the full size truck division (all makes), and best interior in the full size truck division.

The show attracted 6,000 entries and an estimated 80,000 people flocked to the speedway.

Mr. Clarke's 1993 Ford Econoline was loaded onto a ship container and shipped to Jacksonville, Florida, before being finally driven six hours to Atlanta.

The truck is scheduled to make its first local appearance in its new colours at Bermuda's largest auto show, Show & Shine, tomorrow at Number One Shed, Front Street, Hamilton.

The show will feature cars and cycles competing in all classes.

Mr. Clarke's vehicle has undergone three transformations over the last seven years.

It was first presented as "Spur Change,'' then as "Thunder in Paradise'' and thirdly as "It's Over''.

"It's Over'' recognises the hard work of several of the Island's most industrious and talented businesses and craftsmen who contributed to the victory.

Mr. Clarke said his truck would be used for exhibitions and as a limousine service.
