Dancer wins McGill award
Deborah Butterfield Scholarship this year, it was announced yesterday.
Miss Van de Weg, who attended Bermuda High School and the Saltus Grammar School post-graduate year, will receive $4,000 a year for up to four years -- when she is expected to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at McGill University in Montreal.
Miss Van de Weg, who is a member of the National Dance Theatre, spent the 1992/93 school year as a Rotary Exchange student in Java, Indonesia.
The scholarship comes from funds in the McGill Bermuda Scholarship Trust which was established in Bermuda in 1988 by Mr. Dudley Butterfield and his wife Deborah.
Local McGill graduates also sought to match the generosity of the Butterfields by providing more money to the Trust.
The Dudley and Deborah Butterfield Scholarship and the McGill Bermuda Scholarship are available to students in Bermuda on alternate years.
Miss Rachel Van de Weg.
