Darrell coordinates substance seminar
The Good Shepherd Human Service Centre, in association with the National Drug Commission will be hosting a seminar on recognition, prevention and treatment of substance abuse October 9 at the North Lecture Hall of the Bermuda College.
Rex Darrell, home mortgage broker, is coordinating the seminar.
Mr. Darrell said: "The Good Shepherd Human Service Centre is new to Bermuda.
It is more or less a subsidiary of an east coast American organisation which focuses on holistic treatment of substance abuse. It is comprised of a network of helping people within a community such as social workers, police, ministers and other professionals.'' This conference is designed for social workers, therapist, medical doctors, psychologists, lawyers, business people and anyone interested in learning more about drug recognition, prevention and treatment.
The guest speaker will be actor, Todd Bridges from the sitcom "Different Strokes''.
His topic will be: "Building Bridges:'' A Personal Narrative on Substance Abuse and Recovery.
The show featured eight-year-old Arnold and his 12-year-old brother Willis, two black kids from Harlem who found themselves quite suddenly in the lap of luxury following the death of their mother. Their mother was the housekeeper for wealthy Philip Drummond who had promised her he would look after her boys.
