These are the 17 people who died on the roads during the year: February Gladwin Smith was the first person to die on Bermuda's roads, dying from his injuries four days after an accident on Middle Raodfd, Southampton.

James Stowe , 26, of Cox's Hill, Pembroke also died in an accident.

April Rudy Parris became the third person to die on Bermuda's roads. Mr. Parris, 32, was killed when his car hit a tree.

Horse rider Jason Jones died after a brave fight, following an accident in which he came off his mount on the way to the Agricultural Exhibition.

And another young person lost his life on the roads in a sad month, 17-year-old Ewan Sampson died when his motorcycle hit another vehicle on Middle Road, Southampton.

Mark Anthony (Snowy) North was killed in a road accident in Southampton.

May The roads claimed another victim when car passenger Ashanti Smith , of Devonshire, was killed in a head-on crash.

Pensioner Phebe Moody , 86, of Hamilton Parish died from injuries sustained in an accident on South Shore Road, Devonshire.

June American visitor Helen Snyder died after an accident on her rented moped on the Causeway.

July Yusef Hewey of Devonshire became the tenth person to die on the Island's roads, when his scooter collided with a wall.

September Devonshire resident Humberto Pineda , 33, died after his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a van on South Road.

Later in the month German student Catrin Schaefer , 23, died after her rental scooter was involved in a collision with a car close to the Airport.

October The sad toll on the Island's road continued as Jamaican Dave Miller , 40, succumbed to the injuries he received in a road accident days earlier.

November Canadian architect John Watson became the 14th road fatality on Bermuda's roads this year. He died after a motorcycle accident, whilst taking a friend home.

Well known taxi driver Clifford Darrell was killed after his taxi was involved in a collision with a truck at Barne's Corner.

December Another young Bermudian, Racquel Basden , was killed after the motorcycle she was travelling on was involved in a collision.

And hours later, another tragedy occurred when Antoine Bean , of Southampton, was found dead beside his motorbike in Sandys.
