Debate team goes high-tech

The debate will be held over the World Wide Web -- a first for a Bermudian debate team.
The team be comprised of a trio of students from local schools who will go on-line at Centre Solutions on the third floor of the Zurich Centre at the Waterfront Plaza on Pitts Bay Road at 11 a.m.
The debate will be available on the Internet to users who download the free software from www.livetx.com/esudebating.
The local team will sit on the opposing side for the motion: "This house believes that water is the new oil.'' The event has been organised by the English Speaking Union in London and coincides with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Week's activities.

Estailen Alberto Ramirez-Hernandez of the Dominican Republic, died after suffering seizures on board the Lauda Airline 767.
The flight was diverted to Bermuda and landed at 2.15 a.m. The dead man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where an autopsy was performed.
Police were suspicious of the death and are now handling the investigation, said the spokesman.
He added: "Bermuda Police are going to work through Interpol to keep the authorities in Italy and The Dominican Republic informed.'' Magistrates' Court heard that Edwards was being transferred from Somerset Police Station to Hamilton Police Station by Police on August 14, 1999, and a constable found a brown paper twist, containing three rocks of a crystalline substance, in his pocket.
The substance was later found to be .30 grams of freebase cocaine, or crack, with eight percent purity.
