The August 25 lecture kicks off with a reception at 6.30 p.m. followed by the presentation by BBSR scientist Dr. Deborah Steinberg.
Dr. Steinberg will introduce the audience to the fascinating world of deep-sea creatures that have adapted to near total darkness, crushing pressure and chilling waters.
Tickets for the lecture, which will take place at the BBSR in St. George's, are $10. Tickets can be reserved by calling 297-1880 ext. 206 *** The Bermuda Cathedral Organ Restoration Fund presents a concert of music by Mozart, Bernstein, Lerner and Lowe, Gershwin and more.
The August 18 show will take place at the Bermuda Cathedral, on Church Street, at 7 p.m.
Performers for the evening will include Dr. Karol-Sue Reddington, Janice Rosa Moran, Mark Henderson, Gillian Henderson and Samantha Tavares.
Admission for the concert is $5 with all proceeds going to the Organ Fund.
*** Congratulations to the Bermuda National Culinary Team who recently did Bermuda proud at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Miami.
The team won two silver and a bronze medal and two additional awards were bestowed on the team for their excellent performance at the prestigious competition.
The Team competed against the best chefs from 16 Caribbean Islands in the event which is the largest single culinary event held in the North America.
The Caribbean Culinary Federation (CCF) and the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) have announced a joint venture to promote contemporary Caribbean cuisine.
The $500,000 project will be financed by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank and by the CCF.
The agreement provides for the formulation of standards for Caribbean cuisine including recipes, use of Caribbean products and cooking methods, the development of apprenticeship programmes and the development of guidelines for culinary competitions.
