Designer to give advice to full-figured women
Bermudians will get the chance to meet the creator behind the fashionable Californian clothing so many local women enjoy wearing.
Plus-size designer Fern Bratten will be on the Island this weekend to inspire women, of all sizes, to look and feel their best.
"She's a firm believer in feeling good about yourself, no matter what your size,'' said Trims Plus buyer Gayle Stewart.
The New York-based creator of the Fern Bratten clothing line will be in the plus-size Front Street store this Friday and Saturday to share her industry tips for looking like a million dollars.
"We have been dealing with the clothing line for two years and it has been very successful,'' said Ms Stewart. "It is well priced and features all sorts of fabrics.'' Ms Stewart said the visiting designer will take centre stage at the store's fashion show on Friday evening which will showcase clothing for plus-size women.
On Saturday, Ms Bratten will be in the store all day to meet women and answer their wardrobe questions.
"She's dynamic,'' said Ms Stewart. "She travels all over the US giving women the benefit of her advice.
"She herself is a full-figured woman, so she really knows what she is talking about.'' And the local buyer promised that anyone who meets the friendly designer will not be disappointed and will soon adopt her motto, `if you can't hide it, decorate it'.
"She'll tell them how to put their wardrobe together, what they should look for and how to accessorise their outfits,'' Ms Stewart explained. "She's a firm believer that full-figured women still want to be in style and like all the things others like.'' "She has a wonderful personality and loves what she does.'' Anyone interested in meeting Ms Bratten should visit Trims Plus around mid-afternoon on Friday or anytime on Saturday.
In case you can't make it to Trims Plus this weekend, here are a few tips for plus-size dressing from Fern Bratten: Never wear your clothes too loose or too tight; both make you appear larger and loose clothes are sloppy; A good skirt length for larger women is an inch or two below the knee; For a slimming effect match hose with shoes. This will slim the leg and pull the look together; A scarf, pendant or long necklace will create a vertical line; Limit yourself to one or two dramatic pieces; Monochromatic dressing -- one colour from head to toe -- is a great way to look your best; and Remember that large women can wear pleats, plaids, whites, pastels or anything else they want -- as long as it fits properly.
