Mrs. Bean's first runner up is Mrs. Pat Swan of the Young at Heart Club, and her second runner up is Muriel Phillips of the Devonshire Circle Club.

Westmeath Activity Club and the Special Peoples Club hosted the annual competition with ladies competing from eight clubs from around the Island.

Organisers thanked all the participants for making the afternoon a success, including, Hillary Talbot of the Special Peoples Club, Myra Bristol of Mount Zion, Sheila Smith of the Shady Rest Sunshine Club, Ruth Davis of the Senior Islanders Club, and Iris Williams of Westmeath.

This is the fourth year the event has taken place and is open to any lady 65 years and up.

A common misconception is that one needs to be a grandmother, but this is not the case, and event organiser Elizabeth Wingate said the Granny part was a friendly way of saying old people.

Ms Wingate is the activities co-ordinator at Westmeath and they had an in house Glamorous Granny competition several years ago, and thought it would be nice to open it up to the rest of the Islands seniors.

This year there were eight contestants, each representing one of the Island's many seniors clubs, but Ms Wingate said the number of entrants seems to be dwindling, even though the title of Glamorous Granny is becoming more recognised around the Island.

The winning Glamorous Granny -- and all contestants are glamorous -- wins a tiara, a sash, and rides in the Heritage Parade and will be present for Coopers Christmas Seniors Shopping day for the Christmas holiday.

Last years Glamorous Granny was 82-year-old Lucille Martin, and the year before was Viola Rogers.

The first lady to be crowned Glamorous Granny was Irene Seaton of the Hamilton Smith's Club.

All of these esteemed ladies are members of the Senior Islanders Club, a division of Admiralty House Community Centre.

The Glamorous Granny competition is one of the Island's three beauty titles, which also includes Miss Bermuda and Miss Tourism, and all three crowned beauties will appear in the Bermuda Heritage Day Parade.
